You would think that ITV had learned that dropping the soaps for football is a very unpopular decision
However bosses have struck again – mainly because they probably make a lot of money from showing it, whether it’s England or not.
Soap fans are furious as ITV have AXED next Wednesday’s Emmerdale and Coronation Street to show the semi-finals of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
The football competition, which is a sort-of an International Cup-Winners Cup, has been aired on ITV 4 throughout to date. But with the lucrative final fixtures coming up, which includes the likes of Euro 2016 winners Portugal, World Cup winners Germany, Gold Cup holders Mexico and Copa America champions Chile, ITV have decided to shift the tournament over to their main channel.
With the Football being broadcast on ITV 1, the news preceding will also be cut short. The usual hour long programme, which informs viewers of national and local news will air for a reduced thirty minutes to make way for the two semi-finals, which take place one after the other with coverage starting at 6:30pm.
One Twitterer made their feelings clear, saying: “Coronation Street cancelled for some tinpot cup that no one’s heard of. Get a grip ITV.”
Another added: “Well done to the coronation Street cast for another gripping story it’s a pity you not on 2 nights next wk due to football so annoying.” [sic]
This is not the first time that ITV have replaced their core-programming in place of something else. Earlier this week the broadcaster withdrew a full weeks afternoon tele to air live coverage of Royal Ascot.
Taking to Twitter, users were furious with one writing: “The chase not being on because of royal ascot is DISGUSTING I’ve never been so hurt”. Another fumed “I wish Royal Ascot would f*ck off, interfering with my Tipping Point and The Chase ritual”.

ITV has ditched Tipping Point in favour of torturing horses. #RoyalAscot
